Hi there fellow pregnant women and husbands (if you are actually reading)! My name is Amanda and my hubby is Aaron. We have been together for almost 6 years and married for just about 2 of those years. This is our first child–and to Aaron’s delight (as well as my mom’s) it is a boy. We are due July 24th and the days seems to be flying by faster and faster.
The first trimester was certainly no picnic. I had a lot of nausea and basically it was difficult trying to figure out what food to eat-not a normal problem for me.lol. I guess this is a good thing because I was already a little over weight before I got pregnant and I have only gained about 13 pounds at 26 weeks. I was so scared I was going to balloon up so it is nice to know that has not happened….yet.
The hardest thing for me thus far has been dealing with my body, its physical changes, and coming to the realization that I am currently a vessel and need be mindful of what my body is telling me at all time. I have always been the type of person to power through things and I just cannot (and should not) do this any longer. When I am tired, I sleep. When I am hungry, I eat.
What are you most excited about? I am most excited about the fact that I am starting a whole new phase of my life. This may seem weird but I feel like I have lived almost 30 selfish years and the idea of being responsible for a whole other life (other than my own) sounds (although scary) like “a calling” rather than “just an obligation”. I look forward to sharing this experience with my husband who is going to make such a wonderful father.
How is your energy level compared to “normal”? Oh.. I am just as lazy as before.lol. just kidding. Actually, I used to overload myself with too many obligations (regardless of my energy level) and I often would end up with a twitch in my eye that would not go away and an extra ten pounds. Over the last year I have really tried not to do that to myself anymore. And now with less energy because of pregnancy that has not been so difficult to accomplish. I take a lot of naps and don’t feel as guilty about it.
What clothes are you finding most comfy? Stretchy clothes for sure. I love wearing soft cotton jogging suits. they are the best!
What type of food are you craving or have aversion to; does the smell of pickles make you smile or gag? The most unusual problem was that before pregnancy I was a happy lil’carnivore and as soon as I was pregnant I could not stand the taste and texture of meat. I still do not eat as much as I normally would. When it comes to smells I would have to say that I cannot stand body odor on me or anyone else (which was also the case before pregnancy but now I am just less tolerant).
What color will you paint the nursery? If I was allowed to paint the walls at the place we are renting from I would have to go with sage green. it is such a soothing color to me. I also love lavender.
What is something silly, verging on ridiculous, that your husband has said about your pregnancy? I think I put the fear of God in that poor man because he has certainly minded his manners thus far. He is in the habit of calling me “Prego” which is kind of annoying because I can only think of myself as spaghetti sauce-not quite the look I was going for. Oh, and another thing is that he has actually thinks we will be decorating the nursery with a Star Wars theme.. I don’t think so hunny.
Where did you conceive? Do you want to share some funny details? We were not “trying” to get pregnant but at the same time we were not taking the necessary precautions to avoid it either. For months before pregnancy, my period was always late and I was always worried that I was pregnant. Each time I take countless pregnancy tests-all ending up negative. So I stopped buying them. Then one day my breasts started to feel swollen and they hurt all the time. and the funny thing was that I did not want to start thinking I was pregnant and go spend money on some silly test again. Then one morning I was cleaning out a bathroom drawer and found a left over pregnancy test and decided to take it to ease my mind. It was one of those digital ones that says “pregnant” or “not pregnant”. When the test said “pregnant” I just sat there thinking that maybe the “not” part would show up later.
