Dr. Jack Newman is a Toronto pediatrician who has practiced medicine since 1970. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto medical school. In 1984, he established the first hospital-based breastfeeding clinic in Canada at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. He has practiced as a physician in Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. He now holds breastfeeding clinics in several hospitals in the Toronto area. He is a consultant with UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and is a popular speaker at breastfeeding conferences across North America and beyond. He is the father of three children, all breastfed.

Dr. Jennifer L. Howse became president of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation in January 1990. Under Dr. Howse’s leadership, the March of Dimes has achieved unprecedented revenue growth and significant expansion of mission initiatives. Dr. Howse holds a Ph.D. in psycholinguistics from Florida State University. She serves on the Board of The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California and chairs the Advisory Board of The Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. She has served as an adviser to the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the HHS Secretary’s National Commission on Infant Mortality. She is a member of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, the European Genetics Foundation Board, and the Pew Environmental Health Commission.

Marie Mongan is a life-long educator, former College Dean, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and Director of The HypnoBirthing Institute. She is the recipient of the 1995 National Guild Of Hypnotists President’s Award, and received the coveted Charles Tebbetts Award in 2000 for the recognition she has brought to Hypnotherapy. Ms. Mongan lives in New Hampshire, but spends much of her time on the road training new instructors in the techniques of HypnoBirthing. She is the mother of four adult children, all born using the techniques upon which HypnoBirthing is based.

Robert W. Sears, MD, is a father of three, board-certified in Pediatrics, and a co-author in the Sears Parenting Library. “Dr. Bob”, as he likes to be called by his little patients, earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1995. He did his pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, finishing in 1998. Dr. Bob is the proud father of three active boys, Andrew, age 15, Alex, age 12, and Joshua age 6. He and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Dana Point, CA. In his spare time Dr. Bob enjoys surfing the California waves, mountain biking, playing bass guitar with his teenage son guitarist, and trying to keep up with his three children.

Sandy and Marcie Jones, Sandy’s daughter, have co-authored a series of books over the past five years. Their shared titles include: Great Expectations: Your All-in-One Resource for Pregnancy & Childbirth and Great Expectations Pregnancy Journal & Planner. Sandy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Furman University where she received the Marshall Prevost Award for “Outstanding Performance in the Behavioral Sciences.” She earned her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Appalachian State University, and she has taken doctoral-level coursework on infant development from the University of Virginia and the University of Maryland. Marcie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political, Legal and Economic Analysis from Mills College, Oakland, CA and a Master’s Degree in Publication Design from the University of Baltimore. Both Sandy and Marcie have advanced media training and have made multiple appearances together on television and radio talk shows.
