It's Memorial Weekend and we have a small group for episode #3. Patti gets a nice surprise at her school and Alice hears the Heart.

This weeks Topics and Guest(s): France Wilson (www.theblessingsofbirth.com) joins us in the Podcast studio and talks Doula with Patti and Alice. What's a Doula? When should you consider looking for a Doula? What questions should you ask when interviewing Doulas and how much should you expect to pay? France answers these questions and more in this weeks episode of Pregtastic's Pregnant Podcasters.

Episode #2 (32:40 min - 15 mb)

Gitta takes the helm and leads our crew to a fun and informative podcast. Patti is having trouble sleeping because of an itch, and Liana starts getting the nursery ready. Alice is hoping her delivery is like having an orgasim, and Gitta is getting inspired by family.

Relating labor to an orgasm is the most positive thing I've ever heard! Imagine hours of that! Alice, I hope your wishes come true. Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the info on doulas! I didn't know much about their services until listening to the two podcasts on them.

Going back to Episode #12:
We arrived back in Germany after 5 happy weeks of visiting everybody on both sides of the family, covering a good portion of the US.

I must apologize for my error during Episode #12. I said that World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1-7) was designated to celebrate the signing of the Declaration Innocenti. That's true, and this year is the 25th anniversary of that document. My error was in saying that the Declaration Innocenti was the 10 guidelines that hospitals must enact in order to be a Baby Friendly Hospital. Big oops on my part. The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative is a separate thing. The Declaration Innocenti is the International committment to marketing guidelines for the baby food companies.

Sadly, even though these guidelines have been around for so long, most--if not all-- baby food companies do not follow the guidelines or are always looking for sly ways to sidestep the guidelines. If you care to read up on the World Health Organization recommended boycott on the BIG formula company, search on IBFAN (International Breastfeeding Action Network). The WHO has been asking us to boycott products from that company for about 30 years because of unethical marketing practices in 3rd World countries.

That microphone did make me a bit nervous. I mentioned twice that all La Leche League leaders are volunteers, but I did not mention that every one of us has breastfed our own children.

I don't think I mentioned LLL's book called "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding". All medical information in the book is reviewed by LLL's own international medical advisory board. There are a lot of breastfeeding books out there, but no solo author can claim that all medical information is reviewed by an international committee of doctors.

La Leche League exists to help you meet your breastfeeding goals. Our services are free of charge, but it does cost money to bring you those services. Please remember to support La Leche League by buying WAB, and if you attend meetings or call for breastfeeding help, please consider becoming a member of LLL.

Happy Mothering!
