New and baby crazy!

Hello everyone! this is my first post on the pregtastic boards...

my name is Marci and I'm 31 (soon to be 32) and have been married for almost a year now. My husband is 40 and I am ready to have a baby! LOL. Maybe it seems like we are rushing it since we have only been married a year, but we have known each other since 1999 (through the internet) and started "dating" in 2005... so we feel ready. Plus he is already 40 and doesn't want to be too much older when we decide to have a baby.

We have set up a basic time table and have decided that we would start trying to get pregnant spring/summer 2009, like a year away. We talked about it and I agreed with this ... but something happened in the last 3 weeks or so... and I just wish we could start now! It's so strange.. because I was NEVER the person who wanted to have a baby. When people come around with their infants, I never want to hold them. In fact, we were at a party once and there was a puppy and someone had a baby.. guess which one I held all day? The puppy! My husband pointed that out to me.. "you know, you never once even looked at that baby!".... but all of a sudden I am ready to be a mom.

Has this happened to anyone else? a "flip of the switch" sort of change and all of a sudden you are baby crazy?

anyway.. mostly I just wanted to say hello and how much I love the podcast! I love all the different stories and it's so educational.. I want to learn as much now before I get pregnant so I will feel a bit more at ease and ready.

First of all WELCOME!

I can understand your feelings, since I felt the same way... In fact I felt the same way even when we decided to go ahead and try. Or maybe its not the same... thinking about it logically I was not ready... and I watched in horror as despite my best logic I went ahead (out of my own free will... no pressure from anyone else) and stopped taking the pill, started charting my temperatures and cycles and even got ovulation tests to be sure we were "targeting" the right time of the month. I guess in a way you can say it happened to me... I went Baby Crazy! And my "logical" mind watched it all happen in pure horror!

I am now 10 weeks pregnant... and I am still not sure about this decision. Yet I am already fiercely protective of the little life inside! :D

The podcast is great! I am listening to it from the beginning, up to Episode 62. Its so much fun to listen to... and I've learned a lot so far...

I think logic kind of goes out the window when it comes to these sorts of things... I mean, if everyone was thinking about babies logically.. the finances of it, how much time and attention they need, becoming completely 100% responsible for another person.. I don't think ANYONE would ever have babies right? lol.

I just don't want to push my husband into having one sooner than he is ready for... so I guess for the next year I'll just have to read everything I can get my hands on about pregnancy and raising children and try not to drop too many hints along the way about how ready I am! lol.

It is certainly important to have your husbands support... I know it was for me and I did have to wait awhile until I got the "sure" from mine. For the next year you can not only read all you can, but also prepare your body for it, if you arent already exercising then start now and also start eating the good foods. Plus it is a good idea to start on follic acid a few months before conception. Those are the things I did while I waited... at least I knew I was working towards it.

P.S. Goes without saying that if you smoke or drink, now is the time to start cutting back on that too. I never smoked, but I did enjoy a glass of wine now and then... and I can tell you some evenings, particularly if we go out for dinner, I really miss that glass of wine.

no! not at all.. and you're right.. I can use this next year as a way to prepare myself! I currently don't smoke and only drink a tiny bit on occasion (like 3-4 times a year) so I'm good on that front.. I do need to lose some weight and am currently working on that right now... so all looks good!

thanks for your help... and don't worry, soon enough you'll be able to have wine again! ;)

I was the same way! I always knew I wanted to have a baby, but once everyone started pressuring me...the last thing I wanted to do was have a baby. I just went off of the pill at the beginning of June and now I am baby crazy. I read anything and everything that I can get my hands on and listen to Pregtastic podcasts at work! Once you decide YOU are ready, you cannot get enough pregnancy talk ha-ha. :) Maybe you should talk to your husband again and see where he stands, you might get lucky! Good luck!

Thanks for your candor, Chanda! I have been listening to the podcast, exercising, and taking folic acid since February all in preparation for trying this summer. While the podcast has been a HUGE help, the "switch" hasn't fully flipped yet. It's nice to hear that a little hesitation doesn't have to be a big worry.
