Here is some additional info on Newborn Screenings.

The Save Babies Through Screening Foundation is a national, non-profit organization whose only mission since its founding in 1998 is to raise awareness of newborn screening. The website www.savebabies.org provides information on newborn screening, identifies the disorders that can be detected, gives information on each state's newborn screening program, and advises parents and physicians how to get supplemental newborn screening when a state's program is inadequate. There are also stories of children affected by these disorders and a resource section, including viewable pamphlets that can be ordered in English or Spanish:

There needs to be a metal toxicity screen at birth. Mayo Clinic did a study on three Wilson's disease patient's that were born in CA after 11/84. CA has kept a refrigerated blood samlpe of every birth since then. Three of three could have been dx with elevvated copper at birth. Mercury has been shown to miagrate via seman to the womb. A recent UNC study found that one in five females of child bearing years had mercury over EPA safe levels. If she can concieve she has higher chances of a premature birth and a child with learning and behavioral issues.
