Anyone have suggestions on healthy meals to make or snacks to eat while you're pregnant?
Things that I've thought were healthy have turned out not to be so healthy. I would love to hear your ideas!
Thanks!

The best advice I can give is this to keep a balanced diet with large viriety of foods. Keep away from fried foods, candies (they give no benefit to you or your baby), cafeine (that includes chocolates). Try to eat different things every day. I love snacking with fruits, dry fruis & almonds that I can safely keep on my drawer. I get home from work late and sometimes I don't have time to cook but I usually boil couple of vegies and blend them (15min) and just put a bit of salt & lemon for flavor. Try not to heat up food in microwaves, use the stove instead. These are things that I learned from books, new moms in my job and my wonderful husband pushing me to be as healthy as I can for our little boy. I hope this help. :)

I've always heard, "If you wouldn't put it in your baby's mouth, don't put it in yours". That's easier said then done, I know! Some things that I love are yogurt with granola mixed in, Honey Nut Cheerios, Wheat thins with a little bit of cream cheese, celery with peanut butter or Laughing Cow cheese.....Man, I'm getting hungry now...time to go make a snack. Hope this helps. If you come up with any other good ideas make sure to post 'em!

Angie...I'm not sure how your diet will vary, as you have to worry about GD, but I find things like apples with peanut butter, blueberries, swiss cheese with wheat crackers, tuna stuffed green peppers, and low-salt pretzels have been very satisfying to me and all are pretty healthy. I also find that drinking flavored sparling water is a great substitute for soda

Tuna stuffed green peppers sound DELICIOUS!!! :) The GD diet has taken some getting used to, but it's working out ok. :)

Tuna!? I was told that my wife should stay away from tuna. What's up with that?
I think the deal with tuna is that it's OK in small quantities (I've heard 1 can per week is alright) because of the fact that tuna is a predatory fish & being higher up on the fishy food chain, it would contain more harmful things ie mercury, etc. If you or your wife are especially concerned about it, it wouldn't hurt to ask the doctor next time you are in, he/she is bound to be more informed than me.
Good luck!

I have a degree in nutrition and I’d like to offer my perspective on this issue in case it’s helpful to anyone out there:):
I think it's wonderful that so many women are so willing to make food sacrifices for themselves and for their babies during pregnancy, but I also think that many of the taboo foods are safer than some would have us believe.
If being pregnant is helping you make healthier choices…that’s fabulous! I just hope everyone isn’t being guilted into making sacrifices that aren’t necessary.
Reliable information is often easy to find.
Decide which resources you trust, and look for articles posted by those people. Asking friends (and even your care provider – if they don’t make a point of keeping very up-to-date on nutrition issues) may seem easier, but can lead to the spreading of misinformation. Of course, if your friends and family want to help, you can always ask them to seek out information for you. I’ve found this to be a great way to involve my husband in my pregnancy. He loves looking up facts and debunking controversies!
I like to rely on information with scientific backing so I use resources like these:

www.fda.gov
www.acpm.org
As for the tuna question, there’s a great article at:

Hello,
I try and eat healthy most of the time. But it seems as though every once and a while I just have to have feed the craving.
My craving recently has been for a corn dog. So if hot dogs are bad for you then are corn dogs bad as well?
Thank you,
Jen
