DW and I had a very interesting discussion about buy a new home before or after the baby. I expressed that our budget might be better if we buy the house afterward the baby is born. So we'd stay in our condo for maybe a few more months to save for our down payment. It would also give me some more time to get our current house prepped, sold and moved. Right now I only have 6 months. She feels that we need to buy before the baby gets here so we will be acclimated to the house and it's "germs" so not to infect the baby. I've never heard anything like this before. What are you all thoughts on this?

New house before or after the baby is here? (Either way we could make the budget work and get the money saved up so that's not really an issue)

Get the house before baby is born; life will be too busy to move with a newborn then for all of you to acclimate to your new family as well as a new home and all that comes with moving.

my two cents.

I agree that you will be very busy after the baby comes. We moved when my son was 6 weeks old and it was quite difficult to get packed and moved. If you have some time to prepare and pack gradually, it can be done, though. Keep in mind that your wifes hormones and "nesting" make her very anxious to get settled and in your new place. That doesn't mean it's the best decision though. Take you time... this decision will last a lot longer than her anxiety. If you do decide to wait,..try to find ways to settle her fears...talk to your doctor about how long to wait to move afterward, line up help moving and (un)packing, etc. Good luck.

Here's my opinion. I am 7 months pregnant. My husband and I are in the process of buying a home right now. We have been in a condo, renting, for 2.5 years and we need one more room. So we started looking seriously in Oct, and now we close on this house Dec 26. Its perfect. My suggestion is get into a home where your mortgage payment will be close to the cost of your current rent. Ours is roughly 65 dollars more. Not bad. We paid off some debt to free up some more monthly cash, so it will work out great. Don't over due it. Stay within your means. The last thing you want is money stress with a new baby on the way. We are so excited to get into our new home for Christmas and start decorating the BABY ROOM!

Good luck with your decision!
