My whole labor process started while i was at work. I went to the bathroom and had my "bloody show" at about 10am Monday morning. Contractions started about 2 hours later about 10 minutes apart. After walking around the rest of the night they were coming about every 5 minutes but not very intense. We decided to go into the hospital at 2am Tuesday morning. I was only monitored and sent home because I was only 2 cm and you need to be 4 for them to keep you. My contractions had slowed back down and I was able to sleep. My mom arrived from Pittsburgh that afternoon (I live in western NY) seeing that my contractions slowed she made me walk around our town the rest of the day. By 7pm I was laying in peoples front yards I was in so much pain on the walk back. Once I got home I tried a hot shower (since we have no tub) because I was determined to try and go drug free after listening to all these podcasts. Unfortunately it was back labor and even with a hot shower and my husband putting all his weight on my back I couldn;t make it through without bursting into tears. By this time they were every 3-4 minutes for about 1 minute at a time. I decided to hed into the hospital again with my husband and little sister and told my mom to meet us. Luckily I was 4cm when we arrived and they kept me. The nurse immediately asked if I wanted an epidural and I screamed yes! I was apprehensive because of all the stories I heard about not being able to feel anything or having a bad reaction but I had the best experience ever with it. I was able to move all around and could still feel every contraction without all the pain and I also immediately dialated to 6cm then my water broke! The nurse said at this rate I'd be pushing in about 2 hours! Shortly after that announcement my sons heart rate began to drop with every contraction. They put the monitor on his head and had me move around but nothing was helping. Then his heart was actually stopping and it took all but 30 seconds before the anesthesiologist was pumping more drugs into me and I was being rushed to an OR. I was devastated but knew it was the best thing for him. I had a rough C-Section with complications throughout but I guess they're pretty common. First I got horrible chest pain and everything went white but they injected my IV with something and I was fine. Then after they got him out they couldn't stop the bleeding and accidentally said it loud enough for my husband and me to hear it which put me into a panic. When they wheeled me back to my room a had the shakes really bad and my teeth were stuck in a clenched position. It took about 3-4 hours until I felt good again and could finally see my baby. They brought him in from the nursery and we looked him over for a while before deciding on the name Timothy John. I found out there was no problem with the cord or anything serious, has just an 8lb 2oz baby and my pelvis was too small and he couldn't fit through which left the poor thing a little banged up for a day or two. But he did great and I recovered quickly and we were pros at nursing right from the start (something easy had to come out of this)! I am happy I got to experience almost every part of the labor experience and will definitely try for a VBAC with the next one! -and he was that small percentage that was actually born right on his due date!

Glad everything went well in the end! I t sounds like you definitely got the opportunity to experience a broad range of labor experiences. Can't wait to add my post in early December.
