Default Baby Food

I just listened to the "making your own baby food" podcast. There was a lot of great information. I blazed my own trail when my little guy was about 6 months, but I wish this podcast had been around. It would have taken away a lot of the anxiety I felt those first few times.

As for the Happy Baby baby food, I think I would want to try the Baby Dhal and Mama Grain. My little guy loves lentils, beans, and grains, so I think it would be a big hit! Looks like it is time to make a trip to Whole Foods.

I loved this episode!

I made all of my 16 month old's baby food and I'm excited about making my next little guy's baby food this time next year! I'm planning on using some of the purees I make for him and putting it into my toddler's meals to bulk up the nutritional value for him!

I would LOVE to try the Happy Baby Organic Brown Rice Cereal. I made my son's cereals too (pain.in.the.butt!) and I think I might forego making the cereals and just get an organic rice or oatmeal cereal this time around.

And since it's Thanksgiving, I LOVE that they have a special product with turkey, potato, sweet potato, squash, etc. called Gobble Gobble Paradise Puree! My new babe will be about 8-9 months old for Thanksgiving next year and this would be great to feed to him then!

I have a 4-month old baby boy, so these podcasts about starting solids came at the perfect time! I've pureed and frozen some squash and sweet potatoes so far, since we had extras from Thanksgiving.

I'd been checking out Happy Baby's website and products even before this podcast came out. I'm really excited to try the Great Greens and Easy Going Greens. They sound like interesting combinations (who would have thought of mixing pear, spinach, and mango?). Plus, I love the convenience of having a few cubes of healthy frozen veggies all ready to go in my freezer.

I have made my own "baby food" since my son was 6 mos old and started on solids.

But really, I didn't make baby food at all. I just coarsley mashed with a fork (if I bothered to do that) a little bit of what ever we were having. I stayed away from high allergy foods, and still followed the rule of one food for a couple of days to check for allergies. Some foods I handed to him practically whole (pears- cored, chunks of avocado)

This was my verison of baby-led weaning. I have to say it was worked well with my family. Our son started self-feeding at six months. We sit together as a family for meals nearly every night and eat together. He eats what he wants, and how much he wants. I don't focus on amounts or stress about it since he is still breastfed and not even a year. I am a full-time working mom and managing solids this way has been very easy.

Last night my 11 month old ate chicken piccata for dinner. This morning he had waffles and pomagranate. He has always been very accepting of new foods and textures and not at all picky (though this can usually start around toddlerhood.) I really credit baby-led-weaning to this. It was been a wonderful experience.

Just a new mom bragging, but here are some videos of him eating:
