“As far as the pregnancy goes, I might say I am most excited about labor. Scary, sure… but scary is also exciting.”

What are you most excited about? I’m looking forward to the little kid stage a lot more than the baby stage. In fact, I often thought we’d skip pregnancy altogether and adopt an older child. As far as the pregnancy goes, I might say I am most excited about labor. Scary, sure… but scary is also exciting.

How is your energy level compared to “normal”? Pretty normal. There were a few weeks in the first trimester when I was extra tired, but that didn’t last too long. I’ve been going on long walks and doing a bit more vigorous exercise periodically, and I’ve had to keep my work schedule as normal. I think that helped a lot in preventing fatigue. Being able to lie around seems to lead to more tiredness sometimes. Being on the go takes your mind off it.

What clothes are you finding most comfy? I love Old Navy lightweight cargos. I wear them to work, at home, on trips, and even rolled up at the beach or small hike.

What type of food do you crave or have aversion to? Does the smell of anything make you gag? I’ve always been a picky eater and had a strong gag reflex, so pregnancy simply accentuated the aversions I already had. I haven’t had any weird cravings, but I’ve certainly wanted pasta with tomato sauce more often than I used to.

What do you have planned for the nursery? I’m a gender-neutral kind of girl, and the room is already a great shade of green, so we’re going to keep that and add a few jungle items along with some clean modern furniture. It won’t be very babyish, but it will grow well with a little kid.

What is your most expensive purchase so far? The only thing we’ve bought so far is our BOB stroller, but we got it on membership points from a outdoorsy/hiking store, so it was kind of free. My grandmother bought the glider I wanted, which might be our most expensive item because it looks more like a living room stuffed chair than a glider.

Where did you conceive? Do you want to share some funny details? All I know is it was here in San Diego. We stopped birth control, but we weren’t calculating any kind of fertility schedule, so the details are a mystery.

How involved in your pregnancy is your husband/partner? A lot more than I ever expected! He’s a supportive guy, but neither of us have ever been baby people, and he’s really busy these days, so I figured he’d become involved slowly. But he’s the one who found Pregtastic for me, and he’s been reading books and watching videos and encouraging me to sign up for classes. It’s been fun to watch him getting into this.

What is something silly, verging on ridiculous that someone has said about your pregnancy? One of my best friends from college didn’t believe me when I told her I was pregnant. She said, “Oh, that would be awful!” We had a great laugh about it, which only supported her initial assumption that it was a joke. It took quite a while to convince her I wasn’t kidding.
