Due with first child - August 5, 2008
Keeping the sex a surprise!
Age 35
Interests - Reading, Snowboarding, Exercise, Business, Technology
I have been married 3 1/2 years and been madly in love with Troy for 12 years
I am originally from Kansas City, Missouri
What are you most excited about?
Well I never wanted kids (had only one babysitting experience that lasted 15 minutes before I called my mom for help) and always wanted a big corner office at a company, so it was a big life altering transition that I went through in May 2007 when I stopped taking the pill. The transition happened when I was sitting in my Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor’s office after having a severe issue with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which had been going on for weeks. We were talking about the career climb and what it was doing to my health. We then moved into a talk about kids and birth control. He thought it would be good for me to have a kid not only for me but my career, and definitely good to get off the hormones in the pill. At the time of the discussion I thought he was crazy! Thought about it, talked it over with my hubby - threw the pill pack away. The moment it was in the trash what I was most excited about was having the opportunity to love, support and encourage another person to grow into being a generous, caring person.
How is your energy level compared to “normal”?
Normal or better than normal. This is what it feels like to live healthy!?! No hang-overs, not tired the next morning from a night that went until the wee hours of the morning and no deadlines (now a housewife up until 1/23/08 was a Global IT Operations Manager for a Fortune 500)! I do cardio 6 days a week (get the heart pumping and sweat flowing) and do yoga about 4 days a week. Plus, I watch what I eat and every few weeks ensure I log my food intake to keep me honest. I have always had a lot of energy though!
What clothes are you finding most comfy?
I wore my pre-pregnancy clothes up until 24 weeks with a Bella Band and now I have moved into maternity clothes. I have always been a big Gap fan so I have hit up Gap Maternity for my look. I do not wear work-out clothes outside of the gym or home, so you will not catch me in sweat pants at the movies or any restaurant. I enjoy showing off my belly, so I do not like any “tent” clothes. Plus, I do not want to look bigger than I am and I believe baggy clothes on me really add the pounds. Form fitting I believe is the best look for all Mommas!
What type of food do you crave or have aversion to? Does the smell of anything make you gag?
I gag easily and that was before pregnancy! Pregnancy has not changed my gag reflex one bit. I have had no cravings thus far. My only aversion has been to spinach and broccoli which use to be a mainstay of my diet, but in January I puked my guts up every evening and broccoli is a tough one to regurgitate. I can eat both now but when I do my esophagus has not forgotten about January yet!
What do you have planned for the nursery?
Troy and I love animals, so we are doing an animal theme. The nickname for BABY! is “The Bear”, so we went with all animals - water, jungle, farm, etc. The walls are going to be painted with stripes (4 colors). The color scheme will remind most of beach colors - blues, greens and yellow. We purchased these cool wall decals stickers - not the large wall decals of sports figures - but ones of animals. We supposedly can move them around with ease. We bought our nursery furniture from IKEA but we live near the beach in a small home and the size, safety, and cost of the brand was perfect for us. I also bought a fully equipped glider - I absolutely love gliders!
What is your most expensive purchase so far?
The fully equipped glider. However, the stroller I want, the Bumbleride - Indie, might give the glider a run for 1st place.
Was this first pregnancy planned?
We knew we were not practicing any form of birth control and having sex. We did not give it much thought outside of that. So, yes, it was planned, but not down to the day we would have sex.
What is something silly, verging on ridiculous, that your husband or someone else has said about your pregnancy?
That I can and should milk this time. That I can act crazy (emotional - crying/angry/upset/etc) and blame it all on being pregnant. That I do not have to exercise or eat healthy because this is my once chance in life to be fat and unhealthy and it be OK.
For me and my unborn child it is vitally important that I physically, emotionally and spiritually be healthy and balanced. I have stayed curious to why “my friend” would tell me this advice and saddens me to think that she made the choice to spend her 10 months of pregnancy acting crazy and living unhealthy.
Where did you conceive? Do you want to share some funny details?
My husband and I like to have morning sex, so I am sure it was in the morning in our bed. We have a good (active) sex life so we have no idea to what day. Remember my T-Shirt Slogan: “Results Of Being Good In Bed.”
