Hello. My name is Stephanie. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and we are expecting our first child (a boy) in late August. We are new to San Diego, having relocated for my husband’s job, and our families are in Minnesota and Vancouver, Canada.
I’m only a few weeks from due date as I write this and I have to say that pregnancy has been an amazing adventure. I was extremely lucky not to have had a single episode of morning sickness, but I was completely taken aback by the sheer exhaustion during the 1st trimester. Seeing and experiencing all the changes have been a real eye-opener. My biggest complaints in the 3rd trimester have been low back and hip pain and heartburn, but they are more than balanced out by feeling baby move and talking to him. The other night he started moving the moment he heard Daddy’s voice when he came home from work. Coincidence? I think not.
What are you most excited about? I am most excited about finding out our baby’s personality and seeing him for the fist time.
How is your energy level compared to “normal”? My energy level is lower and lower with each week that passes.
What type of food are you craving or have aversion to; does the smell of pickles make you smile or gag? My pregnancy has been characterized much more by aversions (which I still have with only a few weeks to go) than cravings. A few cravings I did have in the first trimester included Subway turkey breast sandwiches (I hadn’t yet read about listeria – oops), pineapple and vanilla milkshakes. Aversions: All of my wonderful Indian spices that I used to cook with all the time, actually, food with any sort of spice, sometimes chicken, sometimes tofu, sometimes broccoli.
What color will you paint the nursery? We rent, so won’t be painting, but baby will be surrounded by books and Liverpool Football (Soccer) Club paraphernalia.
What is something silly, verging on ridiculous, that your husband has said about your pregnancy? We conceived in Minnesota the night before my husband came out to San Diego for the interview for the job he has now. Because I had just gone off the pill in August and my cycle had been about 35 days since then, I didn’t think that I would be ovulating yet. We stopped trying when he got home from the interview because he felt pretty good about his chances of getting the job. I only took the pregnancy test (at 35 days) because it was leftover from the month before (there had been two in the box) and I didn’t want to throw it away unused or pack it for the move. So I was pretty shocked when “not†didn’t show up in front of “pregnant†on the stick. Shocked but happy.
