“I literally have to write everything down or I’ll forget it. The other day, I was taking a shower and I was out of the shower and completely toweled off before I realized I had yet to turn off the water!”
Was this pregnancy planned? Yeah, this pregnancy was definitely planned. The original plan was to start our family after being married for a couple years. But, when a couple years came around, we needed more time. Finally, after four years of marriage, we started trying. After another year, we made an appointment with a fertility doctor and after several treatments, we finally learned we were pregnant… on my husband’s birthday. I told my husband his birthday present was nine months of having a designated driver.
What are you most excited about? I’ve heard some much about this unconditional love parents have for their children. I’m so excited to experience that firsthand. I truly believe having a child is one of the greatest gifts a person can receive.
What’s the best part about being pregnant? All the smiles you get from complete strangers.
What type of food are you craving or have an aversion to? My favorite meal in the world is filet mignon, rare. And now the thought of eating steak literally makes my stomach turn. Instead, I find myself reverting back to my childhood cravings of peanut butter and jelly and macaroni and cheese. Oh, and I love boba milk tea… it’s my new Starbucks!
Have you experienced “baby brain” or “momnesia” yet? Absolutely, I literally have to write everything down or I’ll forget it. The other day, I was taking a shower and I was out of the shower and completely toweled off before I realized I had yet to turn off the water!
How involved is your husband? We feel like we waited a long time to start our family, so we are both really active and involved in this pregnancy. He’s so excited that we’re having a boy. I think there’s something comforting about passing down the family name. And, when he’s older, passing a football. That’s very important in our family.
How is your energy level compared to “normal”? Pretty normal until my eighth month. Then, my energy seemed like it could instantly leave my body within seconds, for no good reason. Naps are my friend, stairs are the enemy.
What clothes are you finding most comfy? Even though this is my first pregnancy, I had to start wearing maternity clothes by week 10, mainly because I was carrying him so low. We knew we were going to have more children, so I invested in lots of maternity clothes. Our baby is due in July, so lately I’ve been sporting my maternity shorts and tank tops quite a bit. Oh, and you can never underestimate the importance of a good maternity swimsuit. I’m all for baring the bellies!
What are your plans for the nursery? We’re going with a sports theme. Mainly football, baseball and basketball. We’re hoping our kid will soak up something through osmosis and one day sign a lucrative contract to help pay for his parent’s retirement.
What aspect of pregnancy has surprised you (so far)? You know, they say you shouldn’t have a baby to improve your relationship with your spouse or significant other, and that’s probably true. But, if you already have a good relationship, it’s amazing how having a baby can bring you even closer to one another. You see an entirely different side of that person, and because it’s such an intimate experience, it allows you to love them even more.
What words of wisdom or piece of advice do you wish you knew about pregnancy, before getting pregnant? Always give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Don’t be too hard on yourself and try not to compare yourself to others. Every woman experiences pregnancy differently. This isn’t a competition.
If your delivery day turned out perfectly, what would it look like? My husband would already have the day off work. My labor would start naturally and we’d later arrive at the hospital without too much stress or anxiety. I’d get my epidural before the pain gets so bad that my labor and delivery room reminds people of that crazy scene from the Exorcist. Most importantly, I’d be surrounded by the people who love me the most, so our child will feel that same love the moment he enters the world.
